You should always have fresh flowers around your house. They don't have to be bought or unusual, they can just be a reminder that the world is an amazing place, even in the simplest of ways.

Don't only stop and smell the roses, but cut them and put them in your house. It helps, trust me.

Painting

I love to paint, most people don't, but I do. I love what color can do for a room, for the feeling that's created with color, and how it's the most simple and impactful ways to transform a room. 

I'm on a painting tear lately. Painting at Leonard's, at home and at friend's houses. I'm a doer, it makes me insanely happy to work hard and see the results. I'm a project junkie.

I've heard several times that I'm a hard worker because I'm from Maine, perhaps people are under the impression that Mainers pick potatoes and make fishing nets all day, I have no idea. Silly. It's just who I am.

I am loving my new job, it's so great to be merchandising again, meeting with clients and being surrounded by some of the greatest antiques and reproductions in the world. 

My Living Room

I live in a wonderful little house in Cotuit. I am always working on it in some form or another. It has a lot of soul. Here's what the living room looks like and that's Earl.

  We're starting to add some decorative touches to a little girl's room and these butterflies added some great color and dimension for over the bed.

Pedestal and Ledge

Pedestal: An architectural support or base. A foundation.

Ledge: A shelf. A narrow and flat surface.

Concord, MA

A new job in Concord! I was brought in to originally select paint colors and confirm some lighting selections that the client need assistance with. When building a house there are so many decisions to be made that at some point you just need someone to let you know they are making the right choices, it's an overwhelming process and can make many absolutely crazy. 

I did a color scheme for the entire house (three floors) with the client's original choices, we made a few changes and added some wallpaper, it worked out wonderfully.

We are now in the process of furnishing and working with existing pieces from the client's previous home in Texas. 

   

Striped Bathroom

Wallpaper is wonderful, and I do really love great wallpaper, but it can be very expensive and a huge commitment. I do quite a bit of striping, which gives the same appearance, but can be painted over quite easily. This shared girl's bathroom needed some life and we chose two colors of pink to add some interest to the walls and break up the space. It has a very vintage feel which compliments the tile perfectly. I also wanted the look to not feel too "kiddy" and not feel outdated as the girls grow up.

   

Painted Furniture...

I love giving new life to old furniture. Unless you are prepared to spend some real money on quality furniture another option is to purchase an older piece (in sound condition) and give it a face lift with paint. I find that older pieces were built better and are very solid. Finishes are either dated or damaged and they are generally cheaper. A good primer and several coats of paint can update an old piece into a one-of-a-kind gem. I generally find a light sanding (rubbing out the edges) also helps give an older piece a more authentic look.

These cabinet was a ye olde mustard, that had it's place, but needed new life. It was to be placed in a young couple's kitchen for their children's art supplies.
